For this theme of the ’52 week of 2014′ group, we had to find a partner in the group. Then, each partner had to check the photostream of the other, and to come up with a challenge to get him/her out of the comfort zone. I paired up with Jane Friel, who has a great deal of beautiful macro and landscape photos. Check out her stream!
Her assignment to me was: "For you, I would like you to do ‘A day in the life of Luc Soethout’ and include one forced perspective picture. I hope you will have fun with this, I think you will because I see a great sense of humour in your shots."
Well, not an easy job, since I haven’t done many series of pictures until now. I decided to make a collage of pictures made with my smart phone during a regular working day, Thursday. The pictures are processed with Lomogram, an Instagram-like app for the Windows Phone.
The series starts top left with getting-up activities at home and then continues clockwise with me getting to the office on the bike, a half-hour drive. Then coffee to get me going (and many more duing the day, which I left out here). Then, I start working on my computer (software development for building consultancy) for some hours, have lunch and a walk in the park with a few colleagues. After a small meeting, I continue with more software development. On Thursday evening, I have my weekly choir rehearsal, which is close to the office, so I eat my ‘dinner’ at the company. Finally, I leave the building and close the gate. Then, I hurry to the chapel for the rehearsal, currently repertoire for Easter. At 10 pm, my bike brings me back home, where I arrive in the dark. Before going to bed, I enjoy a glass of wine on the couch, have a chat with my wife and kids, and read a magazine. To conclude the day, I brush my teeth and zzzz.
It was much fun to do this assignment. Thanks Jane for pushing me to do this series. I never realized how well a smart phone works as camera for quick shots during the day. And I really enjoyed coming up with an idea for the forced perspective shot, which would also be in line with the series. By the way, this shot was not done on Thursday, because it was already late that evening. And that was a good decision, since it took me quite some time and many pictures before everything was lined up in a believable way. But again much fun.
