He believed it was his Duty to learn to labor and to Wait. He read Cunninghams from cover to cover and Dental Magazine articleson Success and how to make it a cinch. He knew that if he pulled no Boners,made As in all his Subjects and just Buckled down and put in extra Time andpulled for the Shore, he would arrive on the Infirmary floor in time. And thenit was but a Step to the Teeth of a Nation. The Faithful Freshman wanted to specialize in Oral Surgery. The Hourswere short, the Salary large and the work easy. He plugged on for many moons, keeping his Eyes on the Infirmary Floorand his Mind on his Grays and Brophys. Because he knew that Cleft Palateswere on the increase and Oral Surgeons scarce.
